Withinthe frames of his visit to Malatia Sebastia district Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan visited “Malatia” park where the Municipality of Yerevan jointly with the Armenian office of the UNO development programs, within the scope of “Beautiful Yerevan” project overhauling of the park is going on. Accompanied by the Deputy Mayor David Ohanyan and the head of the district Artak Aleksanyan Taron Margaryan walked about the park and watched the process. Presenting the Mayor the draft of the reconstruction and improvement program the persons in charge reported that instead of badly arranged area of 1,7 hectares a well-arranged, landscaped with new trees, bushes and flowers area is being formed. To provide convenience for the residents, walkways will be constructed, the area will be provided with benches, dustbins, a zone with children’s attractions and games will be separated. Taking into account the slope relief of the park they included construction of new headwalls and repairing of old ones in the program. As a result of the park reconstruction the passage connecting Sebastia street to Romanos Melikyan street will be repaired too, the system of external lighting will be updated. The area will be provided with a new system of irrigation. According to the persons in charge, the park will be put into operation in October of this year.
The resident representative of the Armenian office of the UNO development programs Cler Medina thanked Mayor Taron Margaryan for cooperation and assistance expressing hope that it will be long-lasting.
The Mayor re-stated the willingness of the Municipality to expand cooperation and show permanent support in the implementation of similar projects. “In the recent three years the results of joint programs are really noticeable and I am sure that our cooperation will be continued with new projects”, stressed Taron Margaryan adding that improvement of the parks and squares of the capital is among the priority tasks of the Municipality and they are realizing it year by year increasing the volumes of work and its geography. The Mayor also noted that following the principle of proportional development of the capital they realize those programs particularly in the outskirt districts.
It was mentioned that in “Malatia” park as well as in all other arranged parks and squares they are constructing wheelchair access to make them available for people with disabilities.
By the way, within the frames of cooperation with international structures the park adjacent to the junction of Mikoyan and Gakshoyan streets in Nor Nork district will be improved too.
As a result of cooperation of the Municipality with other structures in 2014 the total area of green zones will increase by 5-6 hectares, 4 hectares of which will make up lawns, and the area of gardens and parks will make 75 %.
