Within the frames of the citywide tree planting announced for April 11 new saplings have enriched the parks of the capital. Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan planted trees in the park adjacent to American University of Armenia which was completely reconstructed last year.
The residents of the administrative district of Arabkir who were taking part in tree planting thanked the Mayor of Yerevan for the construction of the park which had become a recreation zone. In his turn the Mayor of the capital assured that that the programs aimed at increasing the number of recreation zones in the capital would be continued. Taron Margaryan called the residents to keep the cleanness of the capital and treat Yerevan like a good master.
“The city authorities certainly undertook the task of expansion and preservation of the green zones in the capital. To achieve this active participation of the residents of Yerevan is needed. I call our townspeople to take active part in this issue. It is certainly pleasant to note that from year to year the number of participants is increasing. Taking the opportunity I want to thank everybody for the participation in the citywide tree planting and clean-up. Together we must preserve and protect our city. Our programs will be of long character and I am sure that as a result of teamwork we will have the city we have been dreaming of”, said Taron Margaryan.
The citywide tree planting has united everybody since very morning. New saplings were also planted in the area of about 1 hectare adjacent to the historical area of “Karmir blur” in the administrative district of Shengavit in Yerevan. Together with numerous residents Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan took part in the tree planting. In accordance with the project and the presented scheme this are replenished with new saplings is going to be turned into another cosy park in the capital.
As a program priority the Municipality of Yerevan attaches particular importance to restoration and expansion of green areas. Within the recent two years 127 thousand trees and bushes were planted in Yerevan. Another 30 thousand trees and more than 8000 bushes are to be planted this year within the spring tree planting. It should be mentioned that till April 26 20 thousand rose bushes are to be planted as well.
“Taking care of the saplings is of not less importance than planting. I am sure you have noticed that tree planting has been carried out only in irrigated areas. In this regard I’d like to note that within the recent two years we constructed a new irrigation system of 63 km. This year another new system of 20 km length will be constructed”, stressed Mayor Taron Margaryan.
Mayor Taron Margaryan together with the representatives of the diplomatic missions accredited in Armenia planted trees in the forest zone adjacent to the memorial complex “Tsitsernakaberd” It should be noted that the Municipality of Yerevan has completely improved the area surrounding the memorial complex. Answering the questions of the journalists Taron Margaryan thanked the representatives of the diplomatic corpus for active participation in the citywide tree planting.
The ambassadors accredited in Armenia in their turn greeted the initiative and noted that it is important not only from the point of view of environment protection but also for strengthening the friendship between people. They also stressed the importance of the location selected for tree planting. The forest zone adjacent to the memorial complex “Tsitsernakaberd” has been replenished with 500 saplings.
